Divine Chocolate Partnership

Women and children in Ghana

Divine Chocolate

From special edition chocolate bars to poetry competitions, we're working with Divine Chocolate to raise awareness of fairtrade.

Divine Chocolate and Christian Aid enjoyed a successful partnership for 19 years as Christian Aid supported the fair trade chocolate company from its beginning. Together we led the way in mobilising consumer power, encouraging school children to engage creatively on issues around fair trade, and keeping fair trade on the world agenda.

In the early days, when Divine was really just a good idea with only one bar and very little presence in the supermarkets, Christian Aid ran a Stock the Choc campaign. Their wonderful network of supporters handed in postcards to get them to stock Divine because they wanted to see a farmer-owned company succeed and the campaign was a success...It was one of the first examples of consumers really exerting their purchasing power in a positive way.

- Sophi Tranchell MBE, Former Managing Director of Divine Chocolate.

Raising awareness of fair trade

For over 15 years Christian Aid and Divine jointly ran a national poetry competition that regularly received around 3,000 entries. The competition encouraged children to explore issues around fair trade and justice and became a fixture on many schools’ calendars.

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations in 2017, we promoted Divine’s special edition chocolate bar to highlight our joint support for female cocoa farmers in Ghana.
