In this report, Christian Aid argues that implementing the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) is key to the successful achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Without BPfA, there is no Agenda 2030.
Based on the evidence in this report:
- Christian Aid calls on churches and faith organisations to put their own houses in order on gender justice, and to promote and support gender equality and human rights through their communities. This should challenge socially constructed norms, and tackle the root causes of sexual and gender-based violence (GBV).
- Christian Aid calls on governments to adopt robust accountability mechanisms for gender equality, and ensure that all laws, policies, taxation and public spending promote gender equality and inclusion. This should promote new fair and equitable economic models centred on women’s rights.
The report is intended for faith-based actors and feminist activists working on the implementation of human rights instruments and global commitments, such as the BPfA and the SDGs.
It draws on evidence gathered by Christian Aid’s partners at global, regional and national levels, and on semi-structured interviews with staff of faith-based organisations.
