For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
- Psalm 92:4.
Perhaps your experience of Sundays is a bit like that of the Psalmists – as you have an opportunity to rest, you are glad and joyful when you think back on the ways that God has helped you and used you in the past week.
I imagine that the kind of people that would have first been encouraged to think this way would have spent long days trying hard to make ends meet. The coming of the Sabbath would have been eagerly awaited. Why? Because it was time to acknowledge God’s continued goodness and provision.

Loving God in heaven,
thank you for the many wonderful ways
that you are working through your people on earth.
Help me to be aware of your faithfulness,
and to always respond to you with thanksgiving.
