Yorkshire carol concerts raise £1,400

Local schools raise money for Christian Aid at Selby Abbey and Leeds Minster carol concerts

A wonderful time was had by everyone who attended Christian Aid’s carol concerts at Selby Abbey and Leeds Minster – both on Friday 7 December, 2018. An incredible £1,400 was raised for our Christmas Appeal across both events, thanks to the generous donations of those who were there.

In Selby Abbey we heard some beautiful singing from wonderful choirs of Green Hammerton Primary School, Monk Fryston CE Primary School, Staynor Hall Community Primary School, and Selby Abbey choristers.

At the inaugural Leeds Minster Carols, the singing came from the brilliant choirs of St Peter’s Primary, St Luke’s Holbeck Primary, Abbey Grange Concert Band and the Free Range Choir.

Both were lovely evenings and we were made to feel very welcome at the Abbey and the Minster.

Let's be peacemakers

In between the Christmas songs and carols, we also heard powerful stories of peacemakers from Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal. We were all challenged to be peacemakers through our gifts, prayers and campaign actions.

We also gathered a great many signatures for the giant Christmas cards going to Jeremy Hunt, which is calling on our government to suspend all sales of UK arms to Saudi Arabia immediately, and work with all parties to cease hostilities in Yemen.

Want to take part in the 2019 carols concerts?

If you're a primary school interested in taking part in the carols at Selby Abbey or Leeds Minster, or interested in getting involved in another carol concert elsewhere in Yorkshire, then we'd love to hear from you.
