Christian Aid began with churches.
At the end of the Second World War, churches in Britain and Ireland saw people across Europe left hungry, homeless and in need of refuge, and they responded with compassion, faith and practical support. Decades on, that same spirit still shapes our work today.
We now work with partners across the world, responding to crises in places including Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan, and standing with communities pushed into poverty by conflict, climate breakdown and unjust systems. But we have never done this work alone.
Churches and communities across the UK remain at the very heart of our mission. They raise funds, they pray, they campaign and they volunteer. They gather people together and help turn concern into change. Right now, through Time to Act, they're doing exactly that, standing together for a just peace in the Holy Land.

Giving, praying and speaking out
Every year, churches and communities help secure vital funds for our work. Through Christian Aid Week, collections, local events, regular gifts, appeals and volunteering, supporters help us respond when disasters strike, and help us stay alongside communities long after, as they rebuild.
But this partnership has never been only about giving money.
Churches create space for prayer, worship and learning. They host discussion groups, share stories, and help people understand the realities of conflict, climate injustice and unfair economic systems. And they campaign too. Across the UK, our supporters raise their voices for change, writing to their MPs, taking part in public witness and calling for decisions that protect lives and uphold human dignity.
Why ‘Time to Act’ matters now
The Time to Act campaign is one powerful example of this shared calling.
Across, Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories communities are living through devastating violence, loss and injustice. Palestinian Christians have called on the global Church to respond, not with silence or despair, but with courage, compassion and action.
Christian Aid is part of the Just Peace Coalition, which brings together churches and Christian organisations across the UK. Together, we're inviting individuals, churches and communities to work and pray for a just peace for all who call the Holy Land home.
Time to Act provides us with the opportunity to come together as Christians and to advocate for a just peace in Israel and Palestine.
Stronger together
We’re just one of many members of the growing Just Peace Coalition – joined by churches, other Christian organisations and individuals across the UK.
Many of us have been advocating and working for peace in the Holy Land for years, each in our own way. At Christian Aid, we began working with Palestinians in 1947. What's different now is that we have chosen to come together: to pool our resources, share what we know and speak with one voice.
Where no single church or organisation can act alone to carry the weight of this moment, together as a coalition, we can reach further, press harder and stand more visibly alongside Palestinian Christians and all who long for peace. A united call is far harder to ignore than a lone voice.
Raising our voices for justice
At the heart of Time to Act is a call for real and lasting change.
The Just Peace Coalition is urging the UK Government to take stronger action. This includes banning trade and investment linked to illegal Israeli settlements, and suspending arms sales to Israel until it complies with international law. The campaign is also calling for sanctions on leaders responsible for, or inciting, severe human rights violations, and asking the UK to support international courts in ensuring accountability for all parties.
The first collective action is simple and powerful: add your name and take a faithful stand for justice, dignity and peace for all who call the Holy Land home.

Together, we can answer the call
For years, Churches and communities have always stood with Christian Aid through every kind of crisis, funding urgent relief, sustaining long-term change, and helping carry the voices of people facing poverty, conflict and injustice into rooms where decisions are made.
Time to Act is the latest chapter in that long story. It’s an invitation to stand with Palestinian Christians, in the way churches always have: together.
Palestinian Christians have asked the global Church to act. Time to Act is our chance to answer.
