We believe poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive.
But we also believe something else: that change is possible. That when we stand together, poverty can be challenged and lives can be transformed.
United by hope, we work in partnership with a network of churches, organisations and people of all faiths and none to tackle the root causes of poverty. Prayer is at the heart of that hope.
A prayer for a world free from poverty
God of justice,
we pray for a world free from poverty,
where all people can live with dignity, hope and enough to thrive.
Be close to those facing hardship today.
Bring strength where there is struggle
and hope where there is uncertainty.
Open our eyes to injustice,
our hearts to compassion,
and our lives to action.
May we stand together in love
until poverty is no more.
Stand alongside local partners and communities around the world. Christian Aid exists because churches chose to respond – together. Take part in Christian Aid Week and help build lasting change.
5 prayer points for individuals, churches and small groups
1. Pray for dignity
All people are created in God’s image and have inherent value. Pray that this truth shapes how the world treats people living in poverty. Ask God to restore confidence and hope where dignity has been eroded by poverty, exclusion or discrimination. And that those who are overlooked and unheard are seen.
2. Pray for justice
Pray for the courage to challenge systems and structures that oppress people. Pray for leaders to make fair decisions, for communities to raise their voices and for ordinary people to refuse to accept injustice as inevitable.
3. Pray for partnership
Give thanks for our 463 projects and hundreds of local partners working across 29 countries. Give thanks for those working faithfully in local communities. Pray for wisdom, protection and encouragement in their daily work.
4. Pray for resilience in crisis
Pray for communities facing conflict, climate shocks and displacement. Ask God to bring comfort where there’s fear and provision where there’s scarcity.
5. Pray for our own response
Prayer changes us. Ask God to show you how to give, act and pray in solidarity with global neighbours.
From prayer to action
Poverty is painful, stressful and overwhelming. It isn’t a person’s fault – it’s driven by injustice and unequal systems. But, united in hope, we can challenge inequality.
Prayer keeps us grounded in God’s vision of a world transformed into the shape of love. Action helps bring that vision closer.
When we give, act and pray together, we stand in solidarity with our global neighbours – and we help build a world where poverty shall be no more.
