As Christians, we’re called to reflect God’s love and kindness in all that we do.

Whether in our families, communities or in the wider world, our faith is rooted in acts of compassion and grace.

The Bible repeatedly reminds us that love isn’t just a feeling but an action—one that calls us to serve, forgive and uplift others. At Christian Aid, we believe in putting our love and faith into action by standing with those in need, just as Jesus taught.

Here are Bible verses that inspire us to love generously and show kindness to all.

Show an act of kindness today

Your generosity can help families escape the cruel grip of urban poverty. Find out how you can make lasting change this Christian Aid Week.

What the bible says about love and kindness:

  1. Psalm 136:1 - ‘O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.’
God’s love is constant and unchanging, forming the foundation for how we love others.

  1. Proverbs 21:21 - ‘Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honour.’
Choosing kindness and integrity leads to a life of purpose and blessing.

  1. Luke 6:35 - ‘But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.’
True love is selfless and generous, even towards those who may not treat us well.

  1. Philippians 2:4 - ‘Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.’
Love means putting others first and acting with care and humility.

  1. 1 John 4:7 - ‘Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.’
Loving others is a sign of a genuine relationship with God.

  1. John 15:12 - ‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.’
We are called to love others with the same sacrificial love that Jesus shows us.

  1. Ephesians 4:32 - ‘Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.’
Kindness includes forgiveness, compassion and grace in our daily relationships.

  1. Colossians 3:12 - ‘As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.’
Kindness is something we actively choose and practice every day.

  1. 1 Corinthians 13:4–5 - ‘Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.’
Biblical love is defined by patience, humility and kindness in action.

  1. Galatians 6:9–10 - ‘So let us not grow weary in doing what is right… let us work for the good of all.’
We’re encouraged to keep showing kindness, even when it feels difficult.

A prayer for love

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your endless love and mercy.

Teach us to love others as you love us—

without conditions, without hesitation, and without fear.

Help us to show kindness to those in need,

to forgive those who hurt us,

and to stand for justice where there is suffering.

Let our lives reflect your compassion,

so that through us, others may see

Your love at work in the world.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
