Christian Aid Week 2026
All across Wales, churches have been coming together in creative ways to give, act and pray for communities around the world as part of Christian Aid Week.
This year, we’ve been hearing how our partner, Beacon of Hope is making a difference to families facing hunger in Kenya, sharing training and tools to grow nutritious vegetables, helping parents have food on the table and money to help with school fees to send their children to school. It’s been wonderful to see the range of local events take place, so here are just a few to share a snapshot of what’s been happening in Wales.
Plant sales
It was lovely to see a number of plant sales shoot up across the country, in Bangor, Penarth and Groeslon. In Efail Isaf, Pontypridd, Tabernacle Chapel held a workshop to create tiered gardens with herbs, linking in with the vertical gardening technique that communities in Nairobi have been using to grow crops.

Walking
Many supporters took advantage of the good weather to complete sponsored walks. Gareth Hughes completed 51 miles on the North Wales Coastal Path in 24hrs.
Long standing supporters Catrin and Wes walked an impressive distance in the Llanfairfechan range of the Carneddau.
Two groups completed the Penrhys Pilgrimage; Rob Moverley and David Nutbrown-Hughes completed the 22 mile route in one day. Separately, a group from Llanfair Penrhys chose to do the Pilgrimage in reverse, going from Penrhys to Llandaff over a couple of days. They have so far raised over £300 for Christian Aid through sponsorship.

Young people and schools
Our online school assemblies brought together schools around Wales and Beacon of Hope School in Nairobi for a special time of learning and song.
There were a number of ‘70K in May’ challenges, including the Head of Christian Aid Cymru taking on the challenge as ‘Teulu Tutesigensi family’, walking up Penyfan, Corn Du, Llwyn Celyn woods, the banks of the Taf and some of the Ceredigion coastal path near Mwnt.

In Afon Nedd Ministry Area, children from ‘Sundays Cool’ completed a sponsored fun run around Victoria Park, raising more than £1350.
In Cardiff, Llandaff City Primary School pupils cast their votes to find the ‘Traitors’, amongst their teachers, and the Cathedral School held a Big Brekkie for the school community and families.
In Wenvoe, pupils from Gwenfo Primary School held a sponsored silent disco!
A huge thanks to all the schools and Sunday schools for their engagement, enthusiasm, and support this Christian Aid Week!

Art exhibitions
This year saw the return of Caerphilly’s Art Exhibition at Van Road URC Church. The art exhibition ran for a week, with artists paying a small fee to exhibit their work.
Churches in Porthcawl hosted a range of activities, from beach cleans to art sales and all-age entertainment.
Coffee mornings
No Christian Aid Week would be complete without a coffee morning! Churches up and down Wales welcomed visitors with delicious freshly baked cakes and hot cups of tea!
In Cardiff, the Church of the Resurrection held a coffee morning, they raised over £1000. In Chwilog, supporters organised a Bacon Bap Brekkie to keep supporters fueled up!
Churches in Pontardulais held their bi-annual coffee morning and Tesco collection, raising over £1200.

Concerts, jumbles sales and bucket collections
Canton Methodist held a jumble sale, plant sale and coffee morning which together raised over £600.
In Clydach, the churches held a concert, and Quiz Night and even found time for a bucket collection at the local Co-op.
