Visit of our Kenyan partner, Abraham Mwangi

Abraham Mwangi came over from Kenya in November 2017 to share with us news of his work in the maternal and new-born health project in the north-east of the country.

He met many supporters and spoke eloquently in a good number of churches. Among the many highlights of the visit were the annual ‘Advent Hope’ service at Lancing College, an Advent retreat in Oxford, and a visit to the Cowper and Newton Museum in Olney.

Abraham singing Amazing Grace in a chapel

In homage to John Newton, the 18th century slaver-turned-preacher, Abraham stood in his pulpit and lustily sang ‘Amazing Grace’. This led to the curator of the museum filming Abraham singing ‘Amazing Grace’ in Kikuyu, so that the clip could be used in their welcome video! Abraham made quite sure that the camera had a good view of the Christian Aid logo on his jacket.

The whistle-stop tour covered a great deal of ground, and we are all privileged and encouraged to have met Abraham, and to hear his stories of life-saving and life-enhancing work with mothers and babies. This amazing work is partly thanks to your support of our Christmas Appeal in 2014.

It is not too late to donate to this year’s Christmas appeal. Every pound you give will be matched by the UK Government until 5 February 2018.
