Crisis in Myanmar school appeal

Myanmar is a country in South East Asia (it is sometimes also known as Burma). In recent months, there has been violence in parts of the country and many of the people who live in one particular area have been forced to leave their homes – sometimes their villages have been burned down and people have been killed or hurt.

They are frightened as they try to make their way to a place of safety. Many are walking to Bangladesh, a country to the west of Myanmar, but it’s a difficult journey, walking for many days over difficult, dangerous ground. Some children are having to make the journey all on their own, as they have been separated from their parents by the fighting. Many families are living in makeshift camps. These people have had to leave everything behind.

Christian Aid is providing help to people who have had to flee the violence. The charity is providing things they need, like clean water, cooking supplies and medical help.

What can you do to help?

Please find below a prayer for people displaced in Myanmar, and refugees in Bangladesh:

Dear Lord,

We pray for all the people who have been forced to leave their homes in Myanmar.

We pray for safety as they travel by boat, and for strength as they walk long distances carrying their belongings.

We pray for food, clean water and shelter on their journey, and for a safe place to live.

Lord, we know that you are a God of love and compassion, and also a God of truth and justice.

Please help all who are involved in this situation to have wisdom and compassion in finding a peaceful solution.

Amen
