Christian Aid Evensong at Wells Cathedral

Event details

address:

Wells Cathedral, Cathedral Green, Wells, BA5 2UE, United Kingdom

date:

Join Christian Aid supporters and worshippers from across communities in the Diocese of Bath and Wells for a very special Evensong to inaugurate Christian Aid Week 2019, with guest preacher the Rev. Dr. Susan Durber. We are delighted to welcome Susan, who formerly led prayer and spirituality at Christian Aid as the organisation’s Theology Co-ordinator, once again sharing one of her many talents: telling stories of fighting for justice and ending poverty. A minister in the United Reformed Church and now Moderator of the World Council of Churches’ Commission on Faith and Order, Susan quite literally ‘wrote the book’ for much of Christian Aid’s theology – from climate change to gender justice. This Christian Aid Week, we are focusing on stories from Sierra Leone, which is the most dangerous country in the world for mothers to give birth. We look forward to Susan sharing with us how God’s heart for justice compels Christians to work towards a just world, where mothers and babies can be safe and happy. Following the service, Wells Cathedral will be launching a special project in collaboration with Christian Aid, fundraising for work with Syrian refugees and host communities in Lebanon and Iraq. The launch event will be held in the Education Room at 4.15pm, with an overview of the project and of exciting events to come.
