40 million
people are internally displaced across the globe through violence and conflict
Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre

Globally, the vast majority of people who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of violence, conflict and natural disaster remain inside their own country.

There is no international organisation or body responsible for the wellbeing of internally displaced people, and no specific legal framework to acknowledge their status and protect their rights.

We need to make it clear that everyone, wherever they are, has a right to safety, security and a chance to rebuild their lives.
