Walk 300,000 steps this May whilst getting fit and raising vital funds.

It’s simple: take 300,000 sponsored steps across the month of May to raise vital funds for communities battling the worst of this climate crisis. 

Our steps challenge clocks in at just under 10,000 steps a day and you can do the challenge alone or with a team, supporting each other to reach your goal. Whether you decide to walk, jump, skip, hop or run your steps is completely up to you!  

The next step is to join our 300,000 steps in May Facebook group. You’ll find lots of people who are also taking on the challenge, get access to top tips, a support network and lots of motivation.  

If you’re not a Facebook user, don’t worry, you can still join in the fun using a JustGiving page to collect in your sponsorship, you’ll find a handy guide here

Meet Clare

Last year our fitness challenge proved a great success. Up and down the county, you made the most of your lockdown exercise sessions, whilst striding out and getting those steps in.

Meet Clare Morgan along with 7-month-old Iona and wife Jane who joined the 300,000 steps challenge during lockdown 2020.  

Making the most of their daily exercise and the lovely weather; Clare, Iona and Jane, were able to visit lots of local landmarks from Clare’s church and grounds, to the many scenic routes round their nearest park.

Clare kept friends and family updated on Instagram about her daily walks, sharing pictures and highlights including buttercups, dappled sunlight and the sighting of a stag. Clare’s parents, Christian Aid reps at Formby Church, Merseyside also undertook the challenge in solidarity with Clare, helping her to reach further donors. 

Clare told us, ‘It's been great to discover new walks in my area and spend precious time with Iona, introducing her to nature's wonders. I'm particularly thankful for the trees at High Elms for providing much needed shade for us in the blazing sunshine. We couldn't have completed the challenge without them.’ 

Sharing her story on social media also helped Clare to smash her target of £700, she said, ‘donations and messages of encouragement really keep me going in those moments when I have to retrieve Iona's fallen off hat AGAIN, or when I've had 5 hours sleep the night before!’ 

On day 26, Clare and Iona reached 304,557 steps raising over £1000 to support vulnerable communities facing poverty, the climate crisis and coronavirus.

One challenge, your rules

There are many ways you can get involved in the 300,00 steps in May challenge. 

  • Cumulative total 

If you can’t walk every day in May, team up with others to collectively smash the step target. You can even set up a team on JustGiving, and each of you can create your own fundraising pages. 

  • Wheelchair options 

If you’re a wheelchair user, set a target of 300,000 pushes or use an odometer to track distance then convert to steps. 1km = 1,250 steps. 

  • Introducing little steppers 

This year the whole family can join in with the steps challenge as we introduce our 30,000 ‘little steppers ‘challenge. Children can take on their own mini version of the challenge aiming to complete 30,000 steps during May. It is a great way to get them active and take small steps towards a world free from poverty.

Why not get creative with your own challenge idea. The key is to find a challenge that suits you and will be doable regardless of whatever else is going on in the world.  

You could:

  • do a sponsored silence
  • race to learn 100 words in another language
  • organise a bake sale
