This film was shot and narrated by Nelis Flores Velasquez (37), a newly-established dairy farmer from Nicaragua.
Banks won’t lend to poor people like Nelis, so they never get the chance to start small businesses that could allow them to break out of poverty.
But with a loan from Christian Aid's partner MCM, Nelis has been able to buy a cow. With two calves already and a third coming, Nelis now has a small dairy herd, providing milk and cheese to eat and sell. With money from her sales, she has already repaid most of the original loan.
