Kilimanjaro challenge

23 July 2008

Alan Cram, a Christian Aid Week organiser in the Swansea valley, and his son Nigel have recently set out from South Wales for Kenya to raise money for Christian Aid projects.

Accompanied by Alan’s brother and sister and two of Nigel’s cousins, they will attempt to walk up Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro, just over 35,000 ft in total over a period of 14 days.

‘Both of them enjoy walking in the mountains but have never attempted anything like this before,’ said Pam, who is Alan’s wife and a Methodist minister in Clydach near Swansea, ‘and this is a family thing!’

Alan is familiar with the area, as he and Pam have been supporting a church in the Lavington area of Nairobi with their social work projects for over 30 years. He hopes to meet up with some of the people from the church during his visit.

Nigel has also previously visited Kenya, when he spent two months as a volunteer worker in the Hilton township of Nakuru.

Joseph, one of the people whom Nigel met whilst working there, will be their guide and organiser on their walk up Mount Kenya.

If you would like to support Alan and Nigel’s efforts please contact the Christian Aid office in Carmarthen on 01267 237257.
