The Great African Scandal tour

Broadcaster and theologian Robert Beckford is holding a five-city UK tour to publicise the issue of unfair economic policies crippling African development, starting in London on 8 February.

Last year, with Christian Aid's support, Dr Beckford travelled to Ghana to find out why, after 50 years of independence, a country so rich in natural resources remains trapped in poverty.

His resulting documentary, The Great African Scandal, was shown last September on Channel 4.

Read Dr Beckford's article on his journey and unjust trade rules

It exposed the scandal behind some of the rice, chocolate and gold sold on our high streets, and discovered how unfair economic policies are crippling farmers and locking their families into a life of deprivation.

During February and March Dr Beckford will be touring five UK cities in a series of events to publicise these issues.

Each event will include clips from the film, a panel discussion with questions from the audience and special guest appearances.

The events are free and open to all. Refreshments will be provided.
