The Prophetic Church booklet

‘The Prophetic Church contributes significantly to the growing body of work that provides a biblical basis for active engagement with those in positions of power and authority. It deserves to be widely read.

‘I hope it will inform and motivate a new generation who will not simply say the Lord’s Prayer, but will rise up to campaign, lobby, pray and work together for “his will to be done on earth as it is in heaven”’.  Rev Nigel C Tween, Principal, Regents Theological College, and Director of Training, Elim Pentecostal Church.

The Prophetic Church resource looks at campaigning on behalf of the world’s poor and argues that it is a vital part of the prophetic ministry of the church.

Key content

  • In the first chapter, Dr Marijke Hoek looks at how Moses and Esther provide us with examples of ‘speaking truth to power’ and considers Jesus’ ministry focussed on the poor and marginalised.
  • William Carey, the father of modern missions, is the subject of the second chapter.  Rev Simon Jones tells the remarkable story of Carey’s campaigning work in India.
  • Coming to the present day, Sarah Croft and Alasdair Roxburgh highlight issues that must be addressed and questions that should be asked if the church is to be truly prophetic.

The booklet is free to download.  There is also an accompanying summary which includes suggestions for how small groups can use this resource.
