3 February (Fourth Sunday after Epiphany)
‘They said, "Is not this Joseph’s son?"’ (Luke 4:22)
God of grace and clarity,
We pray for people who are overlooked, unnoticed,
hidden away by policy,
in the corners of our minds, of our society, of our world.
We give thanks for the people who look us in the eye,
Who do not flinch at our humanity,
Who do not turn away from our vulnerability,
Who see us with the eyes of love,
that different way of seeing.
Give us your grace and clarity among us and within us;
Your different way of seeing.
10 February (Last Sunday after Epiphany)
‘they saw his glory…’ (Luke 9:32)
whose beauty is beyond our imagining,
and whose power we cannot comprehend:
show us your glory
as far as we can grasp it,
and shield us
from knowing more than we can bear
until we may look upon you without fear,
through Jesus Christ, Amen.
O God, advocate of all who are oppressed,
You shatter our illusions of righteousness
and unmask our divided hearts,
in order that we might be filled with longing for justice and generosity
and so be made whole.
And as justice and generosity
are true marks of a heart turning towards you,
let our actions as well as our intentions
bear witness for the longing of our hearts.
17 February (First Sunday in Lent)
It only takes a seed
to grow into a harvest
and feed a community
It only takes a girl
to be educated
and bless a community
You have given us
the gift of education
may we offer the fruits
of our education
to be a blessing
24 February (Second Sunday in Lent)
You long to gather people beneath the strong wings of Shalom.
Open our hearts to the prophets of peace,
Fashion us into disciples of justice,
So the world may know the freedoms of your kingdom;
Through the mighty gentleness of Jesus Christ
