Over the next two years, Christian Aid's 'Poverty Over' exhibition will be touring cathedrals all over the UK giving our supporters the opportunity to learn more about our work and deepen their understanding about the issues behind poverty and how we can over come them.
The tour will be educational and engaging and is ideal for school trips, individual supporters, parish outings and church members. Visitors to the cathedrals will be invited to reflect upon the nature of poverty and how to respond.
More about the Tour
The centrepiece of the tour is a specially commissioned sculpture created by British artist Mel Howse - paid for by a sponsor. The stunning sculpture takes poverty as its theme and explores the void between those inside the poverty trap and those privileged enough to be on the outside looking in.
It seeks to engage the viewer by showing an image one can recognise but not in the form one would expect; it is multi-dimensional, much like poverty.
Read more about Mel Howse and the sculpture in Alison Jane Reid’s Ethical Lifestyle Blog.
Christian Aid will display a photographic exhibition alongside the sculpture showing their work with partners. The images portray the challenge of the organisation’s vision to eradicate poverty.
Where possible a Chapel will be set aside for prayer and reflection to allow an immediate prayerful response to the exhibition.
Presentation evening
At each cathedral, we will also give you the opportunity to attend a presentation evening where the work of Christian Aid will be presented through words, film and music. Schools will be invited to visit the exhibition and through worksheets the children will be able to explore topics relevant to the national curriculum.
Christian Aid has a vision - an end to poverty - the 'Poverty Over' cathedral tour will enable many people to deepen their understanding of the issue involved in making this vision become a reality.
