Our new website

Welcome to our website. We hope it’s a refreshing change. The website we’ve had for so long had become like a worn-out slipper – beloved but no longer really doing the job.

What we offer you now is a really good website that gives you a way of finding what you need, whether that’s the latest on climate change or what’s happening, right now, in Zimbabwe.

And of course we still have all the essentials: news, resources and updates on Christian Aid Week, Christmas and stories showing what difference your donation makes. And in the future: blogs, polls, video – the whole nine yards – as we develop.

What’s different?
In a word – everything. We’re using stories and photos in an innovative, cutting-edge way. You can sign up to email updates. You can manage your online account with Christian Aid. You can join our newest online debate.

And there’s a search engine that actually works and a site map to help you navigate.

The site’s organised in a way that will suit you, the user. As befits an organisation whose mission is to stamp out poverty, the site is structured around the causes of poverty. So, what are the causes? HIV, climate change, conflict, the abuse of power, living on the edge of survival, unjust trade and emergencies.

It’s a website that makes you act. As a human rights volunteer told us: when the news comes on, don’t just sit at home throwing your shoes at the television – do something! So look out for what you can do – whether it’s sending an email to a politician or taking up our green tips.

The story so far…
You’ll find stories from the funny to the urgent.

• ‘Dictators’ wives’ tells the true story of corruption
• Frontline reporting from our partners in Zimbabwe – facing arrest, and they still speak out
• ‘Abstinence hurts’: how churches are facing the challenge of HIV
•  Video from our 'green friends' who are trying to reconcile their love of cheap airflights with their carbon footprint
• A debate on Tony Blair’s legacy led by our director Daleep Mukarji.

Why bother?
Well, because the stories are so much stronger and the photos are more powerful. But the new website is much more than great stories (although as journalists we still think the stories are the heart of it all).

This new websites means Christian Aid can:

• cut our carbon footprint and money by publishing online, not in print (our print publications contribute a scarily large percentage of our carbon emissions)
• make it easier and quicker for you to donate when there’s an emergency, or if you read a strong story that moves you
• report back to you on what we’ve achieved – or haven’t – right away
• Reach more people, more quickly, with up-to-the-minute news.

Most of all, the website gives us a clearer, stronger voice – for us, for our overseas partners, and for you. Join in – have your say, send us your news and views.

How do I find that old article/resources/report?
Never fear, it’s not lost. If it once existed on our old website, you can still get it.

Email IRC@christian-aid.org and explain what it is you’re looking for and someone will get back to you.
