Your Harvest offering can make all the difference
Imagine how much of a struggle Harvest can be in Kenya. Climate change is making it harder for poor farmers like Rodah to survive.
Each year, she tried to grow vegetables on a small plot of dry land. Every day, she walked a gruelling six miles, carrying back heavy containers of water, just to keep her crops alive.
But despite her hard work, Rodah's harvest was never enough. She had to make the agonising decision to feed her family rather than pay for her children to go to school.
As a parent, you always want to do the best for your children. Imagine how Rodah felt when she couldn't.
Three easy steps lead to big changes
But since we reached Rodah’s community, everything’s changed.
Working with a local partner, ADSE (a branch of the Anglican church in Kenya), we built the community a sand dam. ADSE are also giving farmers drought-resistant seeds, and teaching communities how to make the water they do have go further.
Now Rodah has the precious water she needs to nurture her land. Imagine her joy when she sold her first bumper harvest!
These days she’s even able to provide casual work for her neighbours - helping her entire community to thrive.
And the best part? At last Rodah can afford to send her children to school, giving them lots of opportunities for the future.
Please help us reach more communities like Rodah’s so that they can realise their God-given potential.

Pray with us this Harvest
Lift your neighbours in Kenya up to God – join us in prayer.
This year’s Harvest prayer comes from Esther Musili, executive director of ADSE, a branch of the Anglican Church in Kenya.
O Lord our God,
We pray that the seed we sow
today will bring a harvest that
causes continued dew upon the
earth to sustain the seed in our hands.
May we always have seed to sow
and rejoice when we see the
transformation that reflects the image
of God in your people all over the world.
You can use our Harvest prayer points for more inspiration for your worship:
- Thank God for new growth in rural Kenya, as our partner ADSE plants the seeds of transformation. Pray for its work providing drought-resistant seeds, training farmers and building dams to strengthen communities reliant on farming.
- Pray for Rodah, and praise God for the change in her life. She used to have to walk 10km a day to collect water, but now she waters a flourishing plot from her own tap.
- Thank God that Rodah has been able to send her children to school, and now employs her neighbours to help with the harvest.
- Pray that the seeds of change planted in Rodah’s community today will grow and bear fruit for years to come.
- Pray for churches holding collections and fundraising events for Christian Aid this Harvest, and ask God to bless the money raised, that each pound given can plant more transformation all over the world.
Christine’s harvest is almost ready
Christine and her husband Joachim used to feel frightened when the rains didn’t come. Their harvest is very important – it pays for their children’s education. But now their community has its own sand dam, which means the family has access to precious water all year round. And Christine is sowing drought-resistant seeds that produce crops even when the rains don’t last for long. Now her maize is nearly ready to harvest, and she’s looking forward to giving some of her crop to her church.
A farm pond improved Anne’s harvest
Anne has been supporting her family for years by growing crops. Recently, though, she’s noticed that the rains fail more and more frequently. Climate change is making it hard for her community to survive. But ADSE have helped Anne to build a pond, and being able to keep water on her land has made a big difference to her farm. She’s growing more crops and has even been able to invest in 70 mango trees. In two years’ time the fruit will be ready to harvest, giving Anne’s income a huge boost.
A loan boosted Alice’s harvest – and her potential
Alice struggled to make a living from her crops – until her community set up a savings and loan group. The group supported Alice to build a fish pond, providing water for her land and fish to sell. It really unlocked her potential. Since then she’s learned farming techniques, has bought two dairy cows and has harvested 9,000 mangoes – and counting! Now she can enjoy a decent income. The whole community has benefited from the savings and loan group – people just like Alice are using the money to pay for school fees, healthcare and to invest in their businesses.
