The Edinburgh book sale

June 2011

This year's Christian Aid Week book sale in St Andrew's and St George's West Church in Edinburgh raised an amazing £103,000.

The annual sale is famous for drawing in the crowds and offering a wide-range of unique books, art and collectables, with members of the public queueing for hours and travelling from far and wide to visit.

The event managed to secure the support of Scot's national poet, Liz Lochhead, and offered exciting and rare items including one of the most important works in the history of medical science, a 1649 text by William Harvey entitled 'The Circulation of the Blood'.

This was the 38th annual book sale and since it began it has raised almost £2 million and made a significant contribution to Christian Aid's work to end poverty around the world.
