Loughborough raises over £10,000!

Scoot for a Hoot 2014

Wednesday 28 May 2014

A big well done to the Loughborough Christian Aid committee, who managed to raise over £10,000 for Christian Aid Week this year!

Every year, supporters in Loughborough hold a range of fundraising events throughout the week to raise money, and this year was no different.

From 8-17 May, the town was filled with coffee mornings, collections, a market stall, lunches, sponsored walks and the now classic Scoot for a Hoot.

The committee's local organiser, Mike Limb, said: ‘After several weeks of planning, everything came together with two big sponsored events and the house-to-house collection.

'Envelope collectors have said how responsive people have been, with many people having their envelopes ready and waiting.’

Highlights of the week

Highlights included the annual Scoot for a Hoot, which took place on Saturday 10 May.

This event is a test of driving and manoeuvring skills around a time-trial course on motorised or manual wheelchairs and scooters.

Another popular event was the annual sponsored walk that took place the following Saturday.

The new Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Paul Day, gave some words of encouragement to the 80 sponsored walkers before officially starting the walk.

The sun shone on the walkers of all ages who walked distances varying from 7km to 20km.

Thank you

Mike Limb said: ‘We owe a big thank you to the people of Loughborough for their generosity in raising over £10,000 for the work of Christian Aid for use in some of the most deprived regions of the world.’

The East Midlands Christian Aid office would also like to say a big thank you and congratulations to the Loughborough committee, along with every single one of you across the East Midlands who got involved in Christian Aid Week this year.

The Most Rev Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, also has a thank-you message that you can watch on our Christian Aid Week website.
