Supporters in Loughborough call on local MP Nicky Morgan to help ensure Enough Food for Everyone.

Shumona Begum, Ayesha Choudhury and Salim Lorgat from Islamic Relief, together with Anne and Martyn Speight from Christian Aid, met MP Nicky Morgan on Friday 15 March to discuss ways the UK government could ensure that there is ‘Enough Food for Everyone’ globally.

IF campaign lobby

Masses of similar meetings have been taking place around the country throughout February and March as part of the IF campaign, a coalition of more than 100 charities and non-government organisations working together to demand changes to the global food system that will benefit hungry people.
To highlight the importance of George Osborne’s budget they took a red ‘IF’ campaign box as a prop for their photo with Ms Morgan and voiced support for life-saving aid and tackling tax dodging - both big IFs which could help begin to end hunger.

Ayesha spoke of an experience in Bangladesh where she watched as a young child desperate for food picked up dirty scraps off the ground.

Anne then recalled a Christian Aid visit to Brazil where she met people who had been forcibly thrown off their land who could no longer grow crops to feed themselves.
Nicky Morgan said: 'Thank you to those Loughborough members of Islamic Relief and Christian Aid who visited me to talk about the "Enough Food for Everyone IF" campaign.'

The 4 IFs

The ‘IF’ movement challenges the UK government to tackle four big IFs to help ensure enough food for everyone:

• IF governments keep their promises on aid, invest to stop children dying from malnutrition and help the poorest people feed themselves through investment in small farmers.

• IF governments stop big companies dodging tax in poor countries, so that millions of people can free themselves from hunger.

• IF we force governments and investors to be honest and open about the deals they make in the poorest countries that stop people getting enough food.

• IF we stop poor farmers being forced off their land, and use the available agricultural land to grow food for people, not biofuels for cars.
