ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE IF launch in Leicester

IF launch in Leicester

Friday 25 January 2013

This morning saw the regional launch of the ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE IF campaign outside Leicester Cathedral.

Supporters and representatives from Christian Aid, Oxfam and Tearfund, as well as a photogenic dog, came together outside the cathedral for photos with campaign banners to celebrate the launch.

This new major inter-agency campaign on food and hunger is the largest of its kind since Make Poverty History in 2005.

Mayors and Bishops and media - oh my!

Supporters were also joined by Leicester Assistant Mayor and Councillor, Manjula Sood, as well as the Right Reverend Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester.

The Bishop of Leicester said: 'I am delighted that the churches and faith communities of Leicester are supporting this campaign, which draws attention internationally to one of the great issues of justice in our day.

'We are proud to be associated with Christian Aid in this cause, which we hope will attract the attention of very many people in our region.’

The launch attracted the media's attention, too, with the Leicester Mercury, BBC Radio Leicester and Pukaar News all coming along to cover the event.

After the photo session, everyone moved into the Old Song School attached to the cathedral for refreshments and discussion about the new campaign.

Thank you

Thank you to all who joined us at our Leicester launch of the IF campaign. It was wonderful to see so many of you there in support, and a big thank you for braving the cold!

Want to find out more about IF?

Wednesday 23 January saw the national launch of the food and hunger campaign, ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE IF.

Bringing together over 100 development organisations, it is the first time since Make Poverty History that the international development community has joined together to mobilise people for change.

One in eight people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight and yet our planet provides enough food for everyone. It's unfair, it's unjust and it's totally preventable.

IF we all get together, we can end the global hunger crisis and change the future. Now that the G8 group of world leaders are returning to the UK, we are demanding they take action on hunger.

Join us and become the generation that ends hunger.
