You're hired! Alan Sugar tops quiz poll

Apprentice boss Sir Alan Sugar has emerged as Britain’s top choice in a survey to find which celebrity the public would most like on their quiz team.

The multimillionaire entrepreneur ranks highest overall, with JK Rowling the top choice for women.

Christian Aid commissioned the Ipsos MORI survey to mark the launch of its new nationwide fundraising quiz event, Quizaid.

Gordon Brown comes seven percentage points ahead of David Cameron. Cameron’s attempts to be ‘down with the kids’ may be thwarted as 25% of the 15-34 age group side with the prime minister while only 16% wanted the leader of the opposition.

Among women voters, JK Rowling is the most popular team member, with Sir Alan a close second and Lily Allen least popular of the ten listed.

Sir Alan Sugar is wanted by the highest proportion of men, with Sir Terry Wogan the next most popular and JK Rowling third. Least popular again is Lily Allen.

However, among the 15-24 age group, Lily is the second most popular team member behind Chris Moyles.

In the battle of the airwaves, Radio 2’s Wogan is 11 percentage points higher than his rival Moyles. However, the Radio 1 man fares better with the 15-24 age group, with almost half of them (46%) wanting him on their team.

The survey found that only 18% of British people would want the Queen in their team, falling to just 8% in Scotland. However, Her Majesty fares best in Wales where 24% would pick her for their team.
