Once regarded as the bread basket of southern Africa, a staggering seven million Zimbabweans, almost half the country's population, were in need of food aid this year according to aid agencies working in the country.
Grim predictions
As a result of shortages of seeds and fertilizer, food shortages are predicted for the next 'hunger season' too which falls between December and March.
The global financial crisis and rises in food prices has also left the WFP struggling to meet needs around the world and many families in Zimbabwe could be left with little option but to eat the seeds they have stored for the next harvest.
Preparing for better harvests
Christian Aid hopes to support its partners to provide communities with seeds and fertilizer, along with training to improve yields in advance of the next planting season in October.
Where acute hunger threatens, Christian Aid is aiming to provide seed protection packs.
Your support is vital to make this happen and help Zimbabweans break the cycle of dependency on food aid.
