Immanuel, God with us
Present in our every need
We pray now for our sisters and brothers in the Philippines.
As we wait in this season of Advent
For your light to shine into the world
We pray for those on whom darkness has fallen this week
As we celebrate your birth in a stable
We pray for those who have been forced from their homes,
And those who have lost loved ones in storms and floods.
As we gather in warm homes and churches
And enjoy candle-lit services
We pray for those whose power supplies have failed.
As we enjoy the good things we have to eat
May we be generous in sharing with others
Mindful that many will go hungry this Christmas
As we consider your great goodness to us
And the needs of the world you created.
May we respond with gratitude and generosity
Immanuel, God with us
Be present with those whose lives have been devastated this week
We pray for those who have lost loved ones
For those whose homes have been swept away
For those struggling to survive with little food or fresh water
Whose phone lines and electricity have been destroyed
Who are battling with high winds, lashing rain and surging floodwaters
We pray for those working to rescue the stranded,
To provide emergency food, water and shelter,
Watch over those who are most at risk,
Help communities to protect those who are weakest
And prevent the spread of disease.
As we read the headlines and hear the news
May our response be one of generosity
As we remember your most generous gift to us at Christmas.
