Philippines Typhoon Appeal

In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan we were there, in the hardest hit parts of the Philippines, delivering vital relief to thousands of families caught in the path of the storm.

More than 14 million people were affected by the typhoon, and a further four million forced from their homes.

Six months on and for many, already facing a future without precious loved ones, the anxiety and worry of making ends meet remains. The struggle to feed, clothe, house, educate and care for themselves and their families continues.

Rebuilding lives and livelihoods

Many poor and marginalised people saw their crucial sources of income destroyed. In the last few months local partners have been working tirelessly, helping to restore the livelihoods of fishers and famers who have seen their boats wrecked and their crops washed away.

Thanks to our local partners we reached 185,000 people with emergency relief. Six months on and more than 24,000 people have benefitted from cash assistance and livelihoods support, including new fishing boats and nets.

Generosity and prayers

Our Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Appeal has so far raised more than £10 million. Ted Bonpin, Christian Aid’s Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Manager, said:

'We’d like to thank supporters for their enormous generosity and prayers. Thanks to them we are supporting the most vulnerable and hardest hit households to get back on their feet.

‘However, the road ahead is long, and Christian Aid and our local partners will continue to support those affected by Haiyan in the months and years ahead.’
