Christian Aid has launched an Asia Pacific appeal to help the people of the Philippines and Indonesia to recover from the natural disasters which have struck. Please give generously.
The Philippines
Tropical storm Ketsana hit Manila, the Philippines' capital, and 25 local provinces on Saturday, 26 September. A month's rainfall fell in one day and resulted in widespread flooding.
Around 240 people lost their lives and nearly 500,000 were displaced from homes that were washed away or severely damaged.
Our partners are responding but urgently need more funds to continue their work.
As super-typhoon Parma prepared to hit the Philippines, we spoke to Christian Aid's Country representative in Manila, Daphne Villanueva, to find out what was happening on the ground. Just six days after her own home was destroyed by tropical storm Ketsana, Daphne - along with thousands of others - she was preparing to move her family to a place of relative safety. Indonesia
On Wednesday, 30 September, an earthquake struck Indonesia and left more than 1,000 people dead and hundreds of thousands injured.
Our partners are working to help as many people as possible and reach those most in need. They are delivering blankets, tents and emergency medical supplies to the area.
Arshinta, Director of our partner Yakkum Emergency Unit (YEU), explains over the phone from Sumatra what the situation is like on the ground in the affected area of Padang, how her organisation is responding and some of the logistical problems they are facing. Listen to the audio *

A prayer for those in need
God of compassion,
in Jesus you came among us, and sat beside us,
and heard our stories and healed our pain.
Be with all people suffering,
with all who have lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones;
bring strength to all who are afraid.
Be with us as we work to build your Kingdom.
Where mourning and crying and pain will be no more.
Loving God, your story tells that life is stronger than death.
When we lose sight of hope and possibility,
Give us faith.
Amen
