Voice and accountability programmes

Christian Aid manages three large voice and accountability programmes providing financial assistance and training to over 400 organisations.

We are also the lead partner in Voice to the People (V2P), a UK aid-funded governance project in Nigeria.

These programmes are creating opportunities for civil society to hold their governments to account and are encouraging governments to be more open and responsive to the citizens they serve.

ENCISS logoENCISS (October 2010-January 2015), jointly funded by UK Department for International Development and the European Union, aimed at improving accountability and strengthening citizens’ voices, participation in decision-making and access to information.

Managed by Christian Aid, ENCISS has strengthened the capacity of civil society and government organisations by providing 249 grants worth over £3.4m, as well as training and mentoring in subjects such as financial management and communications.

Christian Aid led a consortium to manage this programme, which was funded by the UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The programme awarded 108 grants worth $8.7m to fund initiatives across education, health, gender and mining, and provided training in financial and risk management. PACS logo In India, Christian Aid leads a consortium to manage the UK Government’s Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) programme.

PACS seeks to reduce the welfare gap between socially excluded groups and the rest of the population. With PACS support, local organisations are improving access to services and opportunity for 8 million socially excluded people in 90 of India’s poorest districts.

V2P logo The Voice to the People (V2P) programme supports communities in Anambra, southeastern Nigeria, to hold state and local government and their leaders to account, take part in the decision-making that affects their lives and raise their voices to demand the rights and services to which they are entitled.

Delivered by a partnership of state-level and national organisations led by Christian Aid, the programme will reach 2.4 million people.
