Campaign with Christian Aid Wales

We promote our UK campaigns to the people of Wales so that we can make our voice heard at UK and European level, but the National Assembly for Wales also offers lobbying and campaigning opportunities for Christian Aid supporters.

Every person in Wales is represented by five Assembly Members (AMs): one constituent AM and four regional-list AMs. To find out who your AMs are, contact the Welsh Assembly on 0845 010 5500 or go to theNational Assembly website

Thisbilingual website provides detailed information on your AMs including:

  • What official positions they hold, which assembly committees they sit on and which cross-party groups they belong to.

  • AM biographies

International Development and the Assembly

Although the main responsibility for international development within the United Kingdom rests with the UK Department for International Development (DfID), the Welsh Assembly recognizes that there is a demand from within Wales for a clear Welsh contribution to international development and addressing global disasters and emergencies. 'There is a demand within Wales for a contribution to international development.'

To this end the Welsh Assembly Government supports activities in Wales which contribute to international sustainable development.

Climate Change and the Assembly

campaigning at CopenhagenThe Wales Assembly Government is working with the statutory and voluntary sectors, business partners, and communities in Wales to tackle the threat of climate change, and intends publishing The Wales Climate Change Strategy in autumn 2010.

This will set out how the Assembly Government intends delivering its One Wales commitments and targets.

The Climate Change Commission for Walesestablished by the Wales Assembly Government will have a key role in implementing the strategy.

The commission includes members from all four political parties, businesses, local government and voluntary sector groups, will assist with the development of new policies and the creation of a consensus on climate change.

Details about membership of the Commission and the dates, agendas and minutes of its meetings can be found on the Wales Assembly Government website.

Christian Aid is a key member of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition. Keep an eye on this page for other ways of getting involved in our climate change campaign.

Remember to lobby your AMs so that Wales can have a strong climate change strategy!

Welsh Peer Educators take HIV message to Government.

Inspired by Christian Aid’s work on HIV and AIDS in Sierra Leone, four young peer educators from Bangor in north Wales organized a petition calling for more education on HIV and AIDS for young people throughout the world. The petition, with more than 3,000 signatures, was presented to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.

The group also had an opportunity to visit Sierra Leone to find out more about the HIV and AIDS education work of Christian Aid partner, the Network Movement for Justice and Development

Christian Aid Wales has works closely with the Terrence Higgins Trust in Wales on HIV issues and is involved in organizing the annual World Aids Day event in Cardiff.

Find out more about Christian Aid Wales's work on HIV by reading about our South Africa Project.
