Here we go! Our Supporter Day is here!

By Laura Trevelyan | 19 October

It’s been a long and winding road, but finally our Supporter Day is upon us!

Nine months of painstaking planning (and replanning). Of writing emails and stuffing envelopes. Of signs being built and laminated – 650, if my maths is any good. Of phonecall after phonecall after phonecall.

There have been bumps along the way, not least when the government announced its public spending review would be on the same day. But we opted to stay the course because we wanted to acknowledge the significance of protecting international development amid the cuts.

But it’s been worth every drop of sweat. We are buzzing, right now.

That’s probably got a bit to do with the visit we had from the Reverend Jesse Jackson on Monday. The whole building was throbbing with excitement at the chance to meet such an icon in the flesh, and he gave an awesome lunchtime talk.

I was lucky enough to get some quality time with him, interviewing him for a couple of Campaigns videos you’ll be able to see soon.

Action hand-inOne of the last things we had to do before the day was hand in 29,000+ of your signatures, calling on the prime minister to take a global lead on climate justice.

Two visiting partners, Suzanne Matalefrom the Council of Churches in Zambia and Shabnam Hashmi fromAct Now for Harmony and Democracy (ANHAD) in India, joined Jude Mackenzie, Christian Aid’s advocacy and communications director, and the Rev Tony Rutherford to hand in your cards to Number 10 Downing Street.

Our day is going to be brilliant – more than 2,400 like-minded people coming together to demand justice.

And even if you can’t be there in person, you can be heard. Our website will be covering every minute of the day with live radio, photos and videos, as well as tweets.

Plus you can let your MP know you’re with us in spirit even if you can’t be in London on the day. Just click here to find out more…
