Many of our supporters have been in touch to ask about our position on the occupations in London and elsewhere, so here it is.
Christian Aid has been calling for tax justice and financial transparency since 2008 because of the impacts tax dodging has on the developing world.
Occupy London and other occupations around the world are grassroots movements that are not lead by or organised by any established organisation. Their chosen method of activism is to take direct action to highlight inequality.
We campaign but we do not take any form of direct action. This is beyond our remit and as an organisation Christian Aid believes we are most effective by campaigning through other methods.
While Christian Aid does not choose to participate in direct action, we recognise that social justice campaigning is a broad movement and individuals engage with issues in many different ways.
Christian Aid will continue to campaign for tax justice through our Trace the Tax campaign and our work as part of the End Tax Haven Secrecy coalition.
