Solving the tax haven mystery? It's elementary!

By Alasdair Roxburgh | 11 March 2011

Christian Aid campaigns team at the Liberal Democrats spring conference 2011A few weeks ago we launched a new strand of the Trace the Tax campaign, calling on G20 leaders to end tax haven secrecy. Today we're taking that message directly to the Lib Dems at their spring conference in Sheffield.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has made positive comments on ending tax haven secrecy in the past. As recently as the Lib Dem conference in September last year he said: 'tax avoiders and evaders must have nowhere to hide'.

We want Nick to live up to those fine words and to push for the G20 to take effective action on tax haven secrecy at their meeting in France this November.

We estimate developing countries miss out on around $160bn in tax revenues every year – more than the entire global aid budget.

Holmes and Watson are spending the day spreading the word that the tax haven mystery can and must be solved for the benefit of the world's poorest.

Take action!

Act now! Call on David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Nicolas Sarkozy to end tax haven secrecy at this year’s G20.
