This weekend we were encouraged to see that the Indian government has been pushing for the G20 to introduce Automatic Information Exchange (AIE) - great news for the world's poor.

Why is AIE important?

Multilateral AIE would mean that tax-related information would be shared between all countries, including tax havens. This would help governments hold companies to account over their tax payments.

Christian Aid estimates that tax dodging costs poor countries $160bn each year. For countries like India tackling tax dodging is crucial - it helps provide them with the resources needed to lift people out of poverty.

The Indian government's support for AIE is a important step if the G20 are to introduce information exchange.
