Climate Summit in New York

Fast for the climateSeptember 2014: Ordinary people like you and I are taking action in our own lives to deal with climate change. Whether it's fasting to show our solidarity, using renewable energy or building the resilience of communities to deal with our changing climate.

More and more people are pushing for this world to be fairer, safer and cleaner.

On 23 September in New York world leaders will meet to discuss a global climate action plan ahead of key climate negotiations in Paris in 2015.

Take action: write to David Cameron

This month, as well as fasting, we are asking you to join with fasters across the globe who are writing to their heads of state. Write to David Cameron and call on him to show leadership at the climate summit.

What to say

Be personal

Tell the Prime Minister why you care and why you’re fasting for the climate. Tell him about the global movement, what you have done to cut your own emissions and your own experiences of fasting.

Be positive

Encourage the PM to be a world leader on this issue, to do the right thing for the sake of the planet and the people suffering the impacts of climate change right now.

Be concrete

Ask for some concrete actions:

  • Ask the PM to attend the summit and champion the delivery of an effective international agreement to limit climate change.

  • Ask the PM to pledge the UK’s fair share to the Green Climate Fund of at least $1 billion, and call on others to do the same.

  • Ask the PM to demonstrate support for a major shift away from fossil fuels and towards low carbon sustainable.

  • Ask the PM to commit to continue to dedicate half of the UK’s climate budget to adaptation to climate change.

Where to send your letter

Please send your letter by 15 September so that it reaches the Prime Minister ahead of the summit.
