Campaign victory: E.ON delays Kingsnorth

Christian Aid is celebrating a huge campaign victory after energy giant E.ON announced that it is putting its plans for a new coal fired power station at Kingsnorth on hold for up to three years.

Christian Aid campaigners have been lobbying E.ON over Kingsnorth for the last two years, highlighting the devastating impact that carbon emissions from new coal will have on the world’s poorest people.

Thousands of you have sent postcards and emails directly to Paul Golby, E.ON’s Chief Executive, and 1200 people converged on E.ON’s Coventry headquarters in March to urge the company not to build Kingsnorth. In August, campaigners also ‘trespassed’ for the first time at E.ON’s coal power station in Ironbridge for our first Mass Visual Trespass.

Paul Brannen, Head of Campaigns, said 'This is a huge victory for Christian Aid campaigners and our allies who have tirelessly lobbied E.ON.

'But most importantly it is a victory won for people living in poverty across the world, who are already being affected first and worst by climate change.'
